The MoEFCC has issued a draft of the Liquid Waste Management Rules, 2024 (the rules), which aims to address the comprehensive management of liquid waste, including its collection, treatment, reuse and disposal.

The scope of liquid waste management would include environmentally sound management of the following:

  • Wastewater
  • Sludge generated during treatment of wastewater as well as faecal sludge
  • Reuse/utilization/ disposal of treated wastewater or sludge/faecal sludge.

The rules have a wide scope of applicability. Comments on the proposal are invited upto 6 December 2024.
